NSFF Upholstery is dedicated to creating the most authentic replicas of traditional leather upholstery.
Using time honoured methods and quality materials to produce a truly stimulating and inspiring product, re-creating furniture masterpieces from previous centuries.
But what really sets NSFF apart is the colouring process.
Conducted entirely by hand, and using formats known only to us, we achieve an extremely "age mottled" patina on all of our furniture. A minimum of eight separate hand processes go into the colouring of our hide furniture, and every one is designed to give our product a truly authentic antique patina...not simply an "old" colour.
Utilising a huge variety of frames, made predominantly from solid Beech, Mahogany or Oak, we create upholstered furniture masterpieces.
In construction the fillings and coverings all comply with current safety regulations and we do not compromise on this point. However, the time honoured hand construction techniques involving pleating and buttoning are maintained throughout. To this day we still hand stud...this means literally hundreds of hand hammering operations on a single piece of furniture.
It must be emphasised that all of our pieces are hand coloured - even the mixing of dyes and solutions is done by hand. Every piece is unique. It is impossible to maintain an absolute consistency of colour and patina. Even if we could do that, we would not. The very essence of our product is that it is individual and quite unique
For this reason we do not provide colour swatches...they are, simply, misleading
To truly appreciate the effect of our colouring it is necessary to view a complete piece. We produce only a few basic "antique" colours...Chestnut, Gold, Olive, Red and Red/Brown.
The quality of the hides we use is of paramount importance to us. We use only natural russet hides from a reputable supplier, to which we add our own colours. Natural hide marks are actually given prominence rather than any attempt to hide them away. If there are no natural marks then we may create them by lightly distressing the skin.
Those frames which have distinctly obvious areas of show wood are polished by us, either with a traditional beeswax process or with a French Polish finish. In either case, the show wood areas will be distressed unless it is specifically requested that they be left plain.
Apart from those standard frame styles shown on the line drawings (opens in a new window), we are able to supply a huge number of other frames. We are also willing to upholster your own design and constructed traditional style chairs.
